STEP: Superficial Therapy Educational Programme

STEP is an educational programme providing information on the use of low energy X-rays for the treatment of both benign and malignant conditions.

Developed by Gulmay Medical Ltd the STEP programme is an invaluable source of information for oncology and dermatology professionals. STEP is an educational resource aimed at increasing awareness of this essential treatment modality. A multi disciplinary clinical advisory panel consisting of UK Radiotherapy and Oncology experts provided material for the programme relating to six key topics topics:

• The history and development of low energy X-ray therapy
• The physics of low energy X-rays
• Malignant and benign conditions treated with superficial and orthovoltage therapy
• Common UK prescription schedules
• The treatment procedure, set up’s and accessories
• Patient care; during and after treatment

In addition the programme houses a resource section, which includes current guidelines on the management of malignant and benign conditions.
