Gulmay Medical install Superficial and Orthovoltage X-ray therapy equipment in Macedonia

We are pleased to announce the recent installation of the Xstrahl 200 at the Institute for Radiotherapy and Oncology in Skopje, Macedonia, in association with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The IAEA are committed to improving cancer care across its 144 member states. The variable aetiology and epidemiology of cancer means that the demand for radiotherapy equipment varies from country to country. Treatment protocols and the type of equipment employed in more developed countries can rarely be directly applied to developing nations due to financial constraints and a shortage of appropriately qualified personnel to deliver the treatment.

The Radiotherapy department at the Institute for Radiotherapy and Oncology in Skopje is the only Radiotherapy facility in Macedonia. The department serves a population of over two million and offers both linac based megavoltage treatment and now Superficial and Orthovoltage X-ray therapy following installation of the IAEA funded Xstrahl 200. The centre has been awarded accreditation as a centre of excellence and regularly trains colleagues from neighboring Former Yugoslav Republic countries.

On the 1st May 2008, Gulmay Medical Ltd, the global leader in Superficial X-ray therapy equipment and services, have acquired IRS medical, our servicing partner on Gulmay's existing UK medical, research and industrial calibration systems.

Gulmay have been working in partnership with IRS medical for some time and after the successful implementation of this servicing agreement the decision was taken to acquire IRS medical, integrating them into Gulmay Medical Ltd to provide not only equipment servicing but also installation of all new Gulmay Medical equipment.

This merger allows Gulmay Medical to expand its services to fully satisfy each customer's specific installation requirements by offering either a full turnkey solution or room refurbishment, including end of service equipment decommission and disposal in line with the WEEE regulations where necessary.
